2009 Rondeau Summer Windfest
July 4th 2009 - hosted by the Rondeau Yacht Club
June 22, 2009
Greeting all!
In case any of you were wondering what happened to the Rondeau Spring Regatta (Windfest), the simple answer is this: We have moved it to the summer!
Last year (about a week after our spring event), RYC was approached byWindsurfing Canadaand Ontario Sailing and asked to host a summer regatta that would be an official stop on the WC / OS summer race circuit. Of course I / we said sure and the scrambling began. In the end, the event went off without a hitch and saw nearly 20 racers from Ontario, Michigan and Ohio compete in a 15 knot southwest thermal.
Following this event and its overall success, we were asked to make this an annual stop on their race circuit. Subsequent discussions ensued amongst the RYC board of directors, and it was suggested and approved that for the 2009 RYC season that the WC / OS stop would be our only club endorsed windsurfing regatta this year.
For 2009, the RYC windsurfing regatta will be held on July 4th. July 5th is being held open for a no wind / thunderstorm date. Attached is the Notice of Race for this event with all the information.
Although this race is a formal stop on the WC / OS circuit it is still open for all to compete and have fun -- we want to see people of all ages and abilities on the water.
As usual, on race day, the Rondeau Optimist Club will be on-site selling breakfast, and our own club will be selling burgers and dogs at lunch time. We also plan on running a free windsurfing beginner's clinic at some point during the day.
I am also pleased to say that Steve Martin and theBoardsportscrew will be at Rondeau for this weekend with a full demo program.
Please mark your calendars for this event and I look forward to seeing everyone back at Rondeau!
Cheers,
Dave
